The Province of Milan has identified technological innovation, especially for the small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) as one of the strategic aspects for the requalification and local development in the Milan area. It is a long time that, for this reason, the Province of Milan is promoting a global approach integrating technological aspects, training and innovative initiatives in financial, judicial and administrative range to propose consistent and effective initiatives to its territory.

The Province of Milan has created a tool to carry out its policies in the innovation field as follows:

	The Pluriannual Strategic Programme for Innovation A coherent action plan supporting the innovation in which the Province establishes its action lines in the field of support to innovation and to the growth of productive activities of the Province of Milan.
	The Forum of Innovation The first virtual space in Italy for the interaction of public and private operators. It is where the operators can debate the existing and future policies and strategies to improve competitivity on the Milan area.
	The direct actions to support the innovation The Province of Milan has being supporting a lot of projects to support the innovation through: direct financings to the SMEs, technological transfer projects, spread communication and local and European networks promotion.
	The participation in various thematic Networks Thanks to the numerous EU projects, carried out by the Province of Milan, it has been possible to establish many solid relationships with several European partners. This interaction has made it possible to activate thematic networks, such as: PAXIS, IRE, METROPOLIS, RINNO.
	The information & services communication In order to improve the innovation and the growth of productive activities in its territory, the Province of Milan promotes an integrate communication system through several publications and websites.
